May is the month of Mary. And as we approach the end of the month, I wanted to reflect on our Blessed Mother.
As Jesus hung from the cross, he told John, the beloved disciple, “Behold, your mother!” In that moment, Mary became a mother to us all.
As Catholics, we often get called Mary worshippers. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Others see how greatly we honor our Blessed Mother and automatically think we’re worshipping her. Catholics worship God alone. We greatly honor and revere Mary.
Having a relationship with out Blessed Mother is so beautiful. As a woman, she is the perfect example of what it means to be a woman, a wife, a mother, and a daughter of God. She intercedes for us to her son. Our Blessed Mother hears our prayers and prays with us to Jesus. Mary also plays an important role in leading us to her son, Jesus. That’s pretty much her main purpose! She wants us to know her son and love him and much as she does. By getting to know Mary better, we can get to know Jesus better. It is through Mary that we get to Christ.
Mary loves each of us as her own child. Welcome her into your heart. Find comfort and protection under her mantle. Honor Mary daily.
This is one of my favorite prayers:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen.
