Praying for the Unborn

On this day 48 years ago, January 22nd, 1973, the Supreme Court of the United Sates ruled to legalize abortion nationwide in the historical case, Roe v. Wade. Since that tragic day, more the 60 million unborn babies have been killed by abortion in the United States alone. This is why, today, Catholics join in a day of prayer for the legal protection of unborn children.

As a proud member of the Pro-Life Movement, it sickens me to know that so many states continue to find ways to pass legislation that harms the unborn. Laws that allow a baby to be killed all the way up until birth. Laws that allow women to receive an abortion without even having to hear the heartbeat of the child. Laws that allow babies to be killed even when scientific research proves they can feel pain.

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”

— Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2270

I am very involved in the pro-life world because of my job, therefore I have learned more than I could’ve ever imagined about the tragedy of abortion. I wish more people knew the truths of abortion, the horror of it. Research the different kinds of abortion procedures, especially a dismemberment abortion, and then see if you can defend this tragedy. As Catholics, we are called to respect and protect life from the moment of conception to a natural death. Yet so many are still blind to the truth of abortion believing it is health care when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This prayer was on my heart

Let us pray for all the babies who have been aborted in the United States. I’m so sorry we weren’t able to defend you. I’m sorry you didn’t have a chance. You deserve better. You are the most vulnerable population of our society, yet society doesn’t care to speak up for you – the voiceless, the innocent. I pray for the souls of all babies lost to abortion that they find comfort and peace in the arms of our Lord.

I pray for our politicians and leaders who have their hearts hardened to this tragedy, that they may come to see the truth. That their hearts be opened to start defending our most vulnerable population and realize that they too were once an unborn child, but were given the chance to live and thrive. I pray for other Catholics who support or are indifferent to abortion, that they turn to the truths that lie within our Church teachings which state that every life is sacred from conception to a natural death. I pray for our future generations, that they will have a love for life instilled in them and will work to protect this inalienable right. I pray for those in the pro-life movement, that they continue to be filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit so that they can continue to be the voice for the unborn babies who have yet to find theirs. I pray for all those suffering from the effects of abortion, both women and men, that they may find comfort in the arms of our Blessed Mother. That through her loving embrace they may find solace, peace, and turn their gaze to our Lord. I pray for an end to abortion not only in the United States, but worldwide. I ask this through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
